Welcome to the shared studio of Mark and Jake Szymanski, a father and son duo painting the rich variety of Michigan’s natural landscapes and wildlife. Working outside allows us to begin our landscape paintings directly in nature, with studio refinements adding the final touches. Each canvas captures a particular place and the sense of being there.

Our fine art paintings grow from time spent in the places we know best—Michigan’s varied landscapes, from oak woods to marshes, bluffs to pine-covered dunes. We walk, observe, sketch, and begin paintings in the field, then return to the studio to let memory and experience guide the rest. Each canvas holds both the exactness of direct observation and the emotion of remembered space. We aim to honor not just how a place looks, but how it feels to be there.
